Next Step Capital Partners™ was created to help small businesses with exciting opportunities for growth. By bringing a previously underutilized and innovative investment structure, partners Patrick Drew and Dan Keelan help companies across the state of Texas take their business to the next level.
Longtime business associates and friends, Dan Keelan and Patrick Drew met while working together at i2 Technologies. A short time later, as Dan led i2 operations in Europe, Patrick and his family moved to Munich, Germany, allowing the pair to work together on a number of major i2 customer projects.
Patrick’s experience spans more than twenty years, including executive and entrepreneurial roles at Accenture, Trilogy Development Group, and i2 Technologies. Most recently, he has been an active angel investor in the Austin area.
In the course of his 10 years at Accenture, Patrick collaborated with a number of global clients, driving the implementation of new technologies into large corporate environments. Straight out of Silicon Valley startups, these new technologies later inspired Patrick to join Trilogy as VP of Client Services. As employee 13 at Trilogy, Patrick helped grow the company to approximately 100 employees while dramatically improving profitability for the group.
Patrick later joined i2 Technologies as employee 21, holding a variety of posts in a 9-year period. i2 rapidly grew to 5000 employees, approximately $1 billion in annual revenue, and went public – all while redefining the supply-chain management space globally. Patrick’s responsibilities at i2 included driving sales expansion into new industry and geographic markets and, later, leading the High-Tech Business Unit in Central Europe.
Patrick’s recent angel investments include BME – an orthopedic implant start-up in San Antonio, Challenge Games in Austin (recently sold to Zynga), and Hellfire Games which recently released Novus Prime for the Sony PlayStation.
Patrick received his undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt and an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin. He and his family have lived in Austin for the past 15 years. In his free time, Patrick enjoys playing tennis and flying a Pilatus PC-12.
Dan is a deeply experienced executive, entrepreneur and investor. Over the course of his 25-year career, Dan has held a variety of posts ranging from field sales to Chief Executive Officer, playing an important role in the success of companies such as IBM, Oracle, i2 Technologies, and Formation Systems. Dan’s perspective is truly global, having lived and worked in Asia, Europe and the Americas.
As a Sales Executive at Oracle in Dallas, Dan was promoted to Regional Manager before then accepting a post as General Manager for Oracle in Melbourne, Australia. From Oracle, Dan moved to i2 Technologies, where he built i2’s APAC operations, developing and managing major customers from Japan to India. Following a return to the United States for one year, Dan assumed leadership of i2 operations in Europe. With performance of the region faltering ahead of his arrival, Dan quickly turned Europe into one of the fastest growing and most profitable regions for the company worldwide.
In addition to a strong record of corporate accomplishments, Dan is an experienced entrepreneur, beginning with the operation of Catalysts Computers (Computer Sales), TDK Properties (Property Development) and Wix Technologies (Sports Apparel).
For the last several years, Dan has been an angel investor, investing and taking active roles in Lifestyle Innovations, Accuwater, BizGreet, Walters Bay Tea, Challenge Games, Atonometrics and Hellfire Games.
Dan is an avid tennis player and cyclist and participates in several triathlons every year. His passion for excellence in education has led him to serve on the Board of Directors for KIPP Austin Public Schools.
